RESUMEN: Con el paso del tiempo el hombre ha evolucionado. Su evolución ha traído muchos cambios en su estilo de vida. Uno de los más notables ha sido la adopción de la vida sedentaria. Con ésta, la importancia de tener un hogar se ha incrementado significativamente. Un hogar no es solamente un refugio temporal; es un lugar indispensable para su desarrollo como ser humano, y por esto no sólo debe ser estético, sino también funcional y ante todo sano para sus habitantes La Secretaría de Obras Públicas del Municipio de Envigado gestiona los programas de vivienda para las personas más necesitadas. Es a través de esta entidad estatal que se presta el servicio comunitario descrito en este trabajo, y que incluye la atención en aspectos como el suministro de servicios públicos básicos tales como el acueducto, la disposición de basuras, el alcantarillado, la electricidad, la reparación de elementos estructurales y no estructurales dentro de la vivienda como muros, techos, cocinas y baños y la construcción de nuevos hogares.

ABSTRACT: Through time, man has evolved. Its evolution has brought many changes in his lifestyle. One of the most notorious has been the adoption of a sedentary life. With it, the importance of having a home has increased significantly. A home is not only a temporary shelter; it is an essential place for the normal development of a human being. Therefore, a home not only has to be esthetical but also functional and healthy for its inhabitants. The Department of Public Works of the Municipality of Envigado manages the home programs pertaining to its less fortunate inhabitants. It is through this State Agency that the community service was done, including among other aspects, the provision of basic public services such as sewer, garbage disposal, water supply and electricity and the repair of structural and non-structural elements inside the house such as walls, ceilings, kitchens and bathrooms and the construction of entirely new homes.
