Resumen:Las grandes bibliotecas del país comenzaron a implementar programas de catalogación con el fin de automatizar sus servicios en la década de los setenta. A medida que aumentaban el material bibliográfico también lo hacia la demanda de estos por parte de los usuarios, exigiendo un mejor servicio. Actualmente, las bibliotecas del país cuentan con una gran variedad de sistemas de catalogación, algunos de estos gratuitos con un funcionamiento básico y otros complejos pero a un valor inalcanzable para muchas de ellas. Para el desarrollo de la propuesta que entrega el presente trabajo, se documentaron brevemente algunos de los sistemas disponibles en las bibliotecas públicas y privadas del país, la comparación de las características funcionales y costos de cinco sistemas representativos en el mercado frente al nuevo sistema administrativo de biblioteca SABIO, dichas documentaciones fueron realizadas objetivamente teniendo en cuanta las propiedades de cada uno de ellos. Para la implementación del sistema SABIO, se realizó un estudio de sus características tecnológicas y funcionales necesarias para su funcionamiento y se desarrolló un plan básico de implementación.

Abstract:The major libraries of the country started to implement cataloguing software in the seventies in order to automate their services. As the amount of bibliographical material increased so did the request of it by the users, demanding a better service. Nowadays, the libraries of the country have a great variety of cataloguing systems, some of them free with basic functioning and others complex but with an unreachable price for most of the libraries. For the development of the proposition that delivers the present paper, some of the current systems in the public and private libraries of the country were documented, as well as the comparison between features and costs of five representative systems of the market against the new library administrative system SABIO. Said documentation was done objectively, taking into consideration the properties of each one of the systems. For the implementation of the SABIO system, a study of its technological characteristics and requirements needed for its functioning was made as well as a development of a basic implementation plan.
