Abstract: A blood pump was specifically designed to augment flow from the great veins through the lungs. This therapeutic device seeks to ameliorate the poor physiology of the failing univentricular circulation and would result in a paradigm shift in the treatment strategy for Fontan patients. Numerical modeling was performed in this thesis project in order to advance the design of the device and to investigate the interaction effects of the pump and the Fontan physiology. This work was completed in two phases.
Description: Una bomba de sangre fue diseñada específicamente para aumentar el flujo en las venas principales hacia los pulmones. Esta mejoraría el funcionamiento fisiológico de una circulación uní-ventricular y resultaría en un cambio de paradigma en la estrategia para el tratamiento de pacientes con fisiología Fontan.
