RESUMEN: Actualmente la demanda de balso en Estados Unidos, principal importador de esta madera a nivel mundial, está satisfecha en un 95% por productores ecuatorianos. Debido al potencial forestal presente en el departamento de Antioquia, a las grandes similitudes de sus regiones con las del vecino país y a los incentivos proporcionados por el gobierno, se vio la posibilidad de realizar un estudio que permitiera establecer la viabilidad de un proyecto de reforestación comercial de balso en Ciudad Bolívar. Con el fin de lograrlo, se realizaron diferentes estudios que sirvieron como soporte para concluir la viabilidad de éste. El estudio financiero, presenta resultados favorables para la realización del proyecto bajo un escenario normal, aunque al evaluarlo en diferentes escenarios arroja los mejores resultados cuando se le aplican los beneficios tributarios dispuestos en la ley colombiana. A partir de los resultados obtenidos en los diferentes estudios realizados en este trabajo, se puede afirmar que en Ciudad Bolívar es viable la realización de un proyecto de reforestación comercial de balso.

ABSTRACT: The balsa demand in the United States, main importer of this wood in the world, is currently satisfied in a 95% by Ecuadorian producers. Due to the present forestry potential in Antioquia, to the similarities of its regions with those of the neighboring country and the incentives given by the government, the possibility to carry out a study that allows verifying the viability of a commercial balsa reforestation project in Ciudad Bolívar was seen. In order to achieve the objectives, different studies that served as support to conclude its viability were carried out. The financial study presents favorable results under a standard scenario for the project’s execution, although, evaluating it in different scenarios shows the best results when the Colombian law’s tax benefits are applied. From the results obtained in the different studies carried out in this work, it can be concluded that the execution of a project of commercial reforestation with balsa in Ciudad Bolívar is viable.
