    Hacia la construcción de un modelo de simulación de la transmisión del dengue en Colombia

    Dengue fever has been considered a public health problem worldwide. In several Colombian regions, where environmental conditions seem to be favorable enough for disease transmission, incidence has been showing important high values. Simplified versions of the infectious disease mathematical models CIMSiM and DENSiM were proposed to be applied for representing the transmission dynamics of dengue incidence in a specific Colombian locality. This is our first quantitative attempt to explore the possible influence of climatic variables on dengue transmission in endemic urban areas. Climatic records were analyzed to detect possible anomalies and their degree of association with epidemiological time series.

    Impacto del material reciclado en los inventarios de materias primas de una empresa manufacturera

    In this paper, a system dynamics model is designed. This model, together with some management indicators is used to measure the impact of recycled material in an industry. This, in order to provide best elements in decision making process related to the management of raw materials stocks. For this purpose, a review of the main elements that influence the production plan of a business case study is performed. Thus, a characterization of the industry and subsequent configuration of the structure and relationships of the system is obtained, in order to model and simulate using the software Vensim DSS. From these simulations, a review and analysis of the system behavior, as well as variations proposed, in different scenarios and changes in relevant parameters, is executed. At the end, a model that illustrates the behavior of inventory levels of different types of materials as well as the values of some logistics and energy indicators is obtained, revealing the important work ahead in recycling on the region of Valle del Cauca, Colombia.

    Simulation of a neonatal monitor for medical training purposes

    Se presenta el desarrollo de un monitor neonatal orientado al entrenamiento médico. Para esto se modelaron y simularon los principales signos vitales como son: señal ECG, señal de pulso, presión arterial, nivel de CO2, entre otros. Las señales fueron integradas en una interfaz gráfica, la cual permite generar diferentes escenarios de pacientes, no solo normales sino también con patologías. Las señales simuladas fueron validadas contra señales reales y, en general, el error es inferior al 5 %. El monitor neonatal fue evaluado por 16 médicos especialistas quienes manifestaron que las señales simuladas son “de excelente calidad”, “fidedignas” y que la interfaz es “amigable al usuario”.
