Most disorders and diseases related to the female reproductive system manifest themselves primarily with menstrual changes and alterations. Despite the prevalence of these irregularities, research on menstrual characteristics is recent and mostly incomplete. The aim of this study is to establish a relationship between the measurement of blood viscosity and the number of cells present in menstrual blood samples from healthy women over 18 years of age, in order to know the viscosity values and the content of cells present in the fluid under normal conditions. Menstrual blood samples from 8 volunteer women over 18 years of age who met the inclusion criteria and not the exclusion criteria were studied. The cellular composition of the menstrual blood samples was analyzed with Ficoll-Paque density gradient solution and their viscosity was measured with a piston viscometer, designed and constructed during this investigation. The results showed that the viscometer built in this project achieves an accuracy of 0.1 mPa and that capillary type viscometers are not suitable for measuring this type of fluids; it was established that the relationship between the viscosity of menstrual blood with the detected cell count is linear; but the relationship between density and cell count is inversely proportional to a power with a correlation coefficient of 0.96; that is, the higher the cell content per unit volume, the higher the viscosity and the lower the density of menstrual blood.
