    The quality of the rawhide in Colombia is one of the causes that affects the competitiveness of the sector, although the country is a major producer of both meat and leather, the current disadvantages on its production chain does not make highly competitive goods on the international markets, besides the waste of feedstock on internal markets. This has been verified by a field research where a group of cattle was observed previous slaughter and their hides after this process, through the analysis of traceability in the production chain, in other words, each links have a quantitative and qualitative analysis which one can be drawn a number of conclusions to build a perfomance improvement plan to reduce the defects of the hide, starting with the cattle herd, through the cold chain, the tanning and manufacturing goods made of leather through the analysis of primary data was collected primarily through interviews with experts from each primary process and information of existing studies on the subject.
