Diseño de una metodología de selección de sitios para monorrellenos de lodos papeleros
    (2014-05-08) Quinchía-Figueroa, A. M. (Adriana María); Irwin, S. (Susan); Uribe-Ramírez, A. M. (Ana María)
The wastewater treatment at paper industry that uses recycled fibers as one of its raw materials generates a sludge rich in cellulose fibers, which once dehydrated is called “paper waste”. This waste has become an environmental problem because of its high generation rate. Although several alternatives of valorization have been studied, in Medellin none of them has been implemented on an industrial scale; the necessity is still there, that is why the land disposal of this waste appears as the most immediate way to manage it. Combined with the problem of disposition, it is the selection of the suitable site to make it, for which a methodology to be applied in the evaluation and selection of the optative sites for the disposition of remainders of paper industry was developed.

Evaluación de la resistencia de un aislado bacteriano nativo compatible con Pseudomona sp. al insecticida Lorsban 4 EC
    (2014-05-07) Quinchía-Figueroa, A. M. (Adriana María); Gomez-Velasquez, F. A. (Felipe Andres); Palencia-Penagos, K. (Karol); Giraldo-Lopera, C. E. (Clara Eugenia)
The resistance of an isolated bacterial culture compatible with Pseudomona sp. to the insecticide Lorsban 4 EC (active ingredient Chlorpyrifos) was evaluated at laboratory scale. The bacterial culture was isolated from a soil sample obtained in East Antioquia that was exposed to the application of the insecticide which is used in grass culture. The principal factors that affect the mobility and adsorption of insecticides in soil were analyzed. The results showed a high percentage of organic matter, and macro and micronutrients as well as medium to high cationic capacity of exchange, which facilitates the adsorption of the pesticide in the colloidal fraction of organic and inorganic fraction. The sandy texture of the soil generates good aeration that favors the processes of volatilization and degradation of the pesticide. Isolated bacterial culture was exposed to different concentrations of the insecticide (480, 4,800, 24,000 and 48,000 ppm), to evaluate the effect of the agent on the bacterial population. According to the results of the tests, the native isolated bacterium compatible with Pseudomona sp. is resistant to the insecticide concentrations studied and possibly has the capacity to degrade the Lorsban 4 EC.

Factibilidad de disposición de los biosólidos generados en una planta de tratamiento de aguas residuales combinada
    (2014-05-06) Quinchía-Figueroa, A. M. (Adriana María); Carmona-Garces, D. M. (Dora Maria)
By means of two pilot tests, Antioquia School of Engineering and Pontifical Bolivarian University , with the support of Public Service Enterprises of Medellín, decided to determine the feasibility for disposition of biosolids originating from the residual water treatment plant San Fernando considering them as potential rehabilitators for degraded soils and composting materials.

Uso de lodos provenientes de la industria papelera en la elaboración de paneles prefabricados para la construcción
    (2014-05-08) Quinchía-Figueroa, A. M. (Adriana María); Valencia-García, M. F. (Marco Fidel); Giraldo-Orozco, J. M. (Jorge Mario)
This work was based on the fabrication of drywalls as nonstructural elements for the construction industry, from the beneficial of the residual sludge from the treatment of waters served as the paper industry. The optimal mixtures, the suitable materials, and the stages of the process of fabrication of the panels to develop pieces were defined that fulfill the standards of resistance required and the technical norms associated to this kind of products. In this form not only new options of materials in the region are offered, but also offers an enormous environmental benefit from the assessment of an industrial waste assessment generated in great quantities.
