ABSTRACT: Nowadays, the main bone defects that occur in people suffering from many diseases are osteoporosis, cancer, and accidents, causing fractures and dental difficulties. In the area of biomaterials, scientists have developed different materials such as bone grafts, which are responsible for regenerating and promoting the growth of new tissues around the defect area. Most of these substitutes are grains, powders, and structures made from biological and synthetic materials that simulate the basic bone structure. High expectations have recently been raised with injectable grafts, however, to improve current therapies in orthopedic surgeries. Nevertheless, the search is still ongoing for ways to make these injectable grafts have the correct mechanical, structural, and biological properties. In this project, an injectable bone material was fabricated from demineralized bone matrix with a particle size of 300 - 500 μm. The principal objective was that the material should have the properties indicated for bone tissue regeneration. First, a review literature search was conducted to find the correct properties to make the injectable material and different characterized assays to show it. It was designed as a qualitative table where ideas were presented with a level of importance. Then, two types of formulations were manufactured to obtain the injectable material, and subsequently compared with each other, according to the characterization tests that determine properties such as injectability, mechanical tests, SEM - EDX, FTIR, bioactivity, degradation, porosity, absorption, and cytotoxicity. The results showed that the injectable bone material with formulation 2 has better properties as a possible injectable bone substitute. The material was found to be injectable with an extrusion force less than 100 N. In addition, it was confirmed that this material has a bioactive interaction with the surface molecules when calcium and phosphorus ions appear in the SEM-EDX analysis, and its degradation was controlled. Likewise, it was shown that it has a low cytotoxic effect thanks to a cell viability percentage higher than 70%. Finally, it is concluded that the interaction between DBM, calcium minerals and polymeric materials show a high potential for the development of injectable bone materials, thanks to its stability, degradation, bioactivity and the osteoregenerative advantages that it brings to the desired application.
