ABSTRACT: 1. CONTEX: In 2008, in the wake of the global crisis and the fall in the price of oil, the importance of the relationship between the tax structure and economic growth is highlighted, in turn the concept of tax pressure is included as a viable tool for counteract the reduction of tax revenues. 2.OBJECTIVE: The main objective of the research was to establish the optimal level of tax pressure in Ecuador. 3. METHOD: Empirical verification of the Laffer curve theory, for this purpose and given the availability of data, a regression was formulated polynomial with logarithmic transformation of the monthly time series of the period 2000-2018. 4. MAIN RESULT AND CONCLUSION: The tax rate that maximizes income is 24,95%, level that is under the current tax pressure in 2018 in Ecuador. 5. SIGNIFICANCE: The article presents a novel contribution since the empirical verification of Laffer's theory shows a reference point for decision-making in fiscal policy, and with this they can consider the pros and cons of the implementation of new taxes, or in turn consider a neutral effect by generating a new tax and creating incentives for production.
