ABSTRACT: This paper characterizes consumer behavior in the city of Medellin in response of exponential organizations (ExO) such as Uber, Rappi and Airbnb, due to the relevance and impact that these types of companies have had on the market and on different industries as a result of constant technological progress and innovation. The entry of these ExO to Colombia has generated controversy not only because of their legal regulation, but also because of their way of approaching the market with an innovative business model, which has also changed the forms of consumption. In order to understand consumer behavior in the face of these exponential organizations, we studied aspects of these companies, such as their business models and impact on their markets, the consumption trends adopted by individuals in the city through hybrid research of primary and secondary sources, and finally the execution of in-depth interviews that allowed us to understand the motivations, attitudes and perceptions of the consumer in Medellin. Thus, we evidenced that the local consumer is looking for ease, is digital, autonomous, influenceable, time and money saver, and his main intention is to have a shopping experience that fits his needs. Exponential organizations take advantage of the digitalization of the world and exponential technologies, not only to innovate in their business models but also in the way they connect with their users and potential customers.
