RESUMEN: Como cumplimiento de los requisito para la obtención de los títulos de grado del Magíster en Administración de la Universidad EAFIT para Carlos Andrés Pineda Osorio y de Ingenieras Administradoras de la Escuela de Ingeniería de Antioquia para Ángela Maria Pineda Osorio e Inés Elvira Vélez Zuluaga, se constituyó un equipo de investigación que abordó el tema de la Financiación de las Pymes en Antioquia y cuyo resultado es el presente trabajo. La investigación tuvo un diseño bibliográfico, complementado con trabajo de campo. La revisión bibliográfica se remonta a información de trabajos de investigación, análisis de cifras y encuestas realizadas por instituciones nacionales e internacionales interesadas en el tema de las Pymes; el trabajo de campo consistió en acudir a diferentes gremios e instituciones bancarias y de apoyo a las Pymes con presencia en el Departamento de Antioquia, especialmente en la ciudad de Medellín. El tema de las Pymes y especialmente la financiación, fue escogido por la gran y creciente importancia de estas unidades en la economía y el desarrollo del país. El número de Pymes, el aporte a la generación de empleo, a la creación de riqueza, al desarrollo de equidad y oportunidades y en general, al desarrollo del país, hacen de esta investigación, aspecto obligado y de la mayor actualidad. En la primera parte se contextualiza el tema general en el capítulo del marco de referencia. Se recogen temas como las Pymes y el sector financiero en Colombia y las decisiones de financiación en las empresas. Posteriormente se presentan los capítulos de diseño metodológico y estudio bibliográfico e investigación de campo que soportan la recopilación de la información utilizada. Se desarrolló la investigación en dos frentes: los capítulos de la demanda y la oferta. La demanda entendida como el fenómeno de búsqueda de financiación de las Pymes y donde se recogen temas como la demanda efectiva y potencial y las fuentes de financiación. La oferta entendida como el fenómeno de ofrecimiento de financiación para las Pymes y donde se recogen temas como las oportunidades de financiación existentes, las características de la oferta de crédito y el Acuerdo de Basilea en cuanto a la financiación de Pymes. Finalmente, en los dos últimos capítulos se recogen las conclusiones de la investigación y las recomendaciones que pueden formularse al sistema en general para buscar un mejor desarrollo del tema en Antioquia y en Colombia. ABSTRACT: As a requirement to obtain the Master in Business Administration degree from The Eafit University for Carlos Andres Pineda and the Management Engineering bachelor degree for Angela Maria Pineda and Inés Elvira Vélez Zuluaga, a team was set up to approach the subject of the financial support for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Antioquia and the outcome is the present study. The investigation was designed as a bibliographical study, complemented by fieldwork. The bibliographical tracking was focused on research report, data analysis and different surveys done by several national and internationals institutes interested in the small and medium subject (SMEs); the fieldwork was carried out in Medellin and the methodology used was in-depth interviews done to finance institutions, enterprises associations and SMEs development institutions with presence in the Antioquia department and specially in Medellín. The financial support for SMEs subject was chosen due to the growing importance and contribution these enterprises can make to the economy country growth. The numbers of SMEs, their contribution to increase work rate and to the poverty reduction by generating opportunities make of this study an important and actual subject. The first part of the study presents the theory context. Subjects as SMEs and the financial sector in Colombia and financial decisions within companies are developed in this part. Further more, chapters as methodology design and bibliographical study supported all the collecting information process. The study was carried out in two parts: the demand and the supply chapter. The demand is understood as the process done by the SMEs to find financial support. In this chapter subjects as actual and potential demand and the financial sources are included. The supply is understood as the process of provide financial support to SMEs where subjects as current financial opportunities available, characteristics of loans offers and the Basilea Agreement are included. In the last two chapters, the conclusions and recommendations done in general for all parties involved in the financial support for SMEs are included. Those recommendations are intend to improve the current situation.
