ABSTRACT The phenomena that determine the behavior of the soil are complex and it can be said the great majority of times that the reasons of the reactions of the soils, mechanical; though there exist factors of another nature, as chemical and environmental. When applying external loads to a mass of soil and having analyzed the changes that they present in the volume, parameters like the mineralogy and the saturation degree change the speed and the proportion of the deformations. In structurally unstable soils the behavior is given by the response of the mineral skeleton and for the alteration that suffers the microstructure being demonstrated in the soils colapsables as a reduction of volume by the increase of the saturation degree keeping the levels of load constant. The results of the odometer tests performed on the residual soils of the flows of the high part and fall of El Poblado, that shape dunites and of amphibolites gneis (located in the Valle de Aburrá, Medellín) allow to determine that due to the fact that does not present behaviors similar to those of collapse, they are not collapsing soils. This work aims to expose the results obtained from different tests realized to soils product of the weathering in situ form the flows of the high part and fall of El Poblado of dunites and of amphibolites gneiss.
