ABSTRACT: The microenterprises represent around 92% of the business fabric in Colombia. The share of the microenterprises in the economic activities, according to the microestablishments poll carried out by the DANE (National Administrative Bureau of Statistics) in 2007 is: commercial industry 63%, service industry 28% and production industry 9%. Through a qualitative research and data from the DANE, was found that nearly 50% of the microenterprises don’t do accounts, and the use of administrative tools for making decisions is poorly developed. The throughput accounting is an administrative information system based on the theory of constraints that was developed by Eliyahu Goldratt. This convenient and useful accounting system allows obtaining administrative tools focused on decision making and control. In the qualitative research was found that some microenterprises register their operation in a way similar to the way that throughput accounting does. The methodology for the application of the throughput accounting to the microenterprise sector has simple terminology and simple theoretical bases, and is focused on the orientation, through examples, to the identification of basic variables and to the construction of administrative tools. Additionally, it must be aimed towards punctual situations that are commonly faced by microenterprise owners, such as price-fixing, scenario assessing for decision making and elaboration of indexes and reports. Through the booklet “Administrative accounting for microenterprises, simple and effective tools to manage your microenterprise and to make decisions”, microenterprise owners are guided in the application of the throughput accounting.
